This course introduces the student to the concepts related to implementing care to patients at risk. Assessment and examination techniques will be utilized in determining the variables that place clients at risk. Triage principles will be utilized to determine clients who need priority care. Students will be guided to acquire appropriate knowledge and skills needed to provide safe care to clients with medical, surgical, and gynaecological emergencies. Tropical diseases and basic life support are also included. This course also prepares students for the intensive care and high dependency experience. Guided experiences are provided in the following areas; 1. ENT clinic, 2. Eye clinic, 3. Emergency filter/treatment rooms, 4. Injection room, 5. Dermatology clinic. Additional time will be provided for rotation in the gynaecology clinic and ward during the NRSG 418: Childbearing III experience. pre-requisites NRSG 229, NRSG 323.
