This course provides practice in an acute tertiary medical setting. The students are introduced to intensive care, high dependency and renal dialysis units during the quarter. Student preparation for quarter includes a course in OPD/emergency nursing and pathophysiology in which they are expected to acquire advanced concepts of medical-surgical nursing preparing them to make sound clinical judgements as well as to set priorities and work efficiently in critical care situations based on sound scientific principles. Learners will have opportunity to utilize relevant technology and to develop skills in caring for patients with cardiovascular, renal, trauma and neurological conditions e.g. ECG monitoring, do and analyse blood gases, organic transplant monitoring, cardiothoracic surgery monitoring, hemodialyis, mechanical ventilation, CPR, etc. This course includes 3 hours of theory and 5 hours of practical. prerequisites: NRSG 323, NRSG 229.
